Herons Softball Comes Up Short During Weekend Of Play

The Great Bay Community College Softball team played a double header at NHTI on Saturday, the first two games in school history. Great Bay lost to NHTI 13-0 in five innings in the first game, GBCC gave up five runs in the first inning then settled in. Makayla Herget (Farmington) took the loss on the mound pitching three innings, Zoe Vailancourt (Dover) pitched the final inning giving up two runs . Audrey Notargiacomo (Winnecunnet)  picked up the first hit in Great Bay school history with a bunt base hit in the first inning, she was forced at second by Meaghan Sandler (Marshwood) who stole second and was stranded there. Maleiya Williams (Portsmouth) lead off the third with a hit and Kierstin Bryant (Farmington) had a hit.

The second game saw GBCC play a solid fundamental game losing to Southern Maine Community College 6-0, after giving up three runs in the first inning the game was tightly contested, starting pitcher Deanna McGuire (Lisbon) pitched a complete game striking out 8 and not walking a batter. Bryant added two hits including a long double, Dani Brashear (Portsmouth Christian) and Ashley LaValley (Farmington) added base hits. Gabrielle Rogers (Dover) played a solid left field. GBCC Coach Mike Vining was pleased with the teams performance for their first time on the field, "we moved some girls around to find positions they were comfortable in and will continue to improve through the fall season."  Assistant coach Paige Cormier saw improvement and looks forward to seeing the team grow together. GBCC (0-2) next plays a doubleheader at Southern Maine CC Saturday at 12:30 and 4 PM.
