Softball Falls to Wilmington College of Ohio on Opening Day in Florida

The Great Bay Community College softball team lost the first game of their spring Florida trip in Ft. Myers to Wilmington College of Ohio 13-7. Great Bay (0-1) had a 4-3 lead and then gave up 8 unearned runs after two were out in the third inning and could not recover. Makayla Herget (Farmington) took the loss on the mound, Courtney Fowler (Newmarket) pitched the final three innings striking out two. Herget lead the offense with two hits and three RBI's, Meaghan Sandler (Marshwood) had two hits and scored two runs, Amelia Sheedy (Portsmouth Christian Academy) added two hits and a run, Audrey Notargiacomo (Winnacunnet) had a hit and scored two runs, while Fowler and Zoe Vaillancourt (Dover) added a hit each and Harlee Palmer (Winnacunnet) scored a run. Emily Brashear (Portsmouth Christian Academy) reached base twice and Kayleigh MacDougall (Farmington) played a solid defensive game as did Gabrielle Rogers (Dover). GBCC plays Castleton University in Ft. Myers on Friday.
