The Great Bay Community College softball team suffered a difficult 7-6 loss on Saturday against the University of Wisconsin Superior in Fort Myers, Florida. Great Bay lead the entire game and took a 6-4 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning when Wisconsin scored three runs. GBCC had two runners picked off in the first inning that stalled a rally, then scored four runs in the second inning when Emily Brashear (Portsmouth Christian Academy) (three hits) singled in Harlee Palmer (Winnacunnet) and Kayleigh MacDougall (Farmington) cleared the bases with a long double and also added a base hit later in the game. GBCC opened the lead to 6-2 in the fourth inning on a base hit by Meaghan Sandler (Marshwood), a Wisconsin error and back to back hits by Makelya Herget(Farmington) and Brashear. GBCC played great defense behind Herget who went the distance on the mound allowing 7 runs, 6 earned and 1 strikeout. Herget had all her pitches working and Amelia Sheedy (PCA) and Palmer were outstanding defensively. Audrey Notargiacomo (Winnacunnet) had a hit and reached base three times, Zoe Vailencourt (Dover) and Sheedy had base hits and Gabrielle Rogers (Dover) scored a run. GBCC returns home and opens their season at Alumni field in Portsmouth against Northern Essex on April 8th at 12pm, followed by a doubleheader at home against Central Maine CC on April 14th at 12pm.
