Stuart’s energy comes up big as Herons defeat Paul Smith's College

The Great Bay Community College Women's Volleyball team picked up their fifth straight win on Sunday morning against a tough Paul Smith's College team. The Herons only loss on the season came against Paul Smith's two Sunday's ago.

The Herons starting lineup included #7 Morgan Cunningham, #8 Ashley Tanguay, #10 Emily Brashear, #11 Brynn Coleman, #12 Nikki Flanagan, and #13 Nicole Knowles. Flanagan led the team with assists with five, followed by Tanguay who led the team in digs with nine as the Herons took the first set 25-21.

The Herons started hot in the second set, leading by as many as 5 points early but they weren't able to hold on, falling 21-25. Coleman's eight kills weren't enough in game three that was back and forth throughout. The Herons eventually lost 23-25.  Coming off the bench #4 Marisa Stuart, had three good serves and one dig helping the Herons come back to win to push to match the deciding 5th set.  Final score 25-20 Great Bay. Flanagan's eight assist, and Coleman's five kills, and Stuart's energy came up big as the Heron's pulled away to win the deciding game, 15- 10.

" She {Marisa Stuart} has the momentum, she's got the energy, so really the team just needed that pick up. I think at this point, being able to have someone on the court to build that momentum is what we need to build the team together" said coach Avery in a postgame interview following the win against Paul Smith's College.
